The Andes , its height usually from 1800 m or less, up to 6268 m with Chimborazo . It is made up of the Pichincha , Carchi , Tungurahua , Chimborazo , Cañar , Azuay , Loja , Imbabura , Bolívar and Cotopaxi provinces.
It is characterized by its impressive mountainous elevations, volcanoes and snow-capped peaks. Among the most important are Cotopaxi and Chimborazo . Its 10 provinces have cities of great historical importance such as Quito , Cuenca , Latacunga , Riobamba , Ibarra , Ambato and Loja , and craft centers such as Otavalo . Likewise, there are several national parks with very rich and varied flora and fauna.
In this region hot, temperate and cold zones coexist. Its inter-Andean region presents valleys of different altitudes and climates. In Quito , the capital of Ecuador , the Mariscal Sucre international airport is the main gateway to the country.

is a protected area in Ecuador situated in the Cotopaxi Province, Napo Province and Pichincha Province, roughly 50 km (31 mi) south of Quito. The Cotopaxi volcano (meaning 'smooth neck of the moon' in Quechua. Cotopaxi is among the highest active volcanoes in the world.
Quilotoa is a water-filled crater lake and the most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-kilometre (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 800 years ago, which produced pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean, and spread an airborne deposit of volcanic ash throughout the northern Andes
Cuicocha is a 3 km wide caldera and crater lake at the foot of Cotacachi Volcano in the Cordillera Occidental of the Ecuadorian Andes. Its name comes from the Kichwa indigenous language and means "Lago del Cuy" or Guinea Pig Lake in English. It was given this name due to the guinea pig shape of the largest Island in the middle of the laguna.
